Browsing and Searching

Use Content Browser to find approved Revit content by searching the indexed library or combining the available filters.

Open Content Browser

Open:

Flow → Content → Browser

Search for Content

Search filters the displayed content as you type.

  1. Open Content Browser.
  2. Click in the Search field.
  3. Enter a recognisable part of the content name or description.
  4. Review the matching items.
  5. Select an item to review its preview and information.

You do not need to enter the complete family name.

Start with the recognisable part

A short, distinctive part of the content name is usually enough. Add more text if the search returns too many results.

When a search is entered while the default Architecture | Windows category is selected, Content Browser automatically changes the category to All Categories so the search is not unnecessarily restricted.

Filter by Category

Use the category list when you know the general type of content required.

  1. Open the Category list.
  2. Select the required category.
  3. Review the filtered content.
  4. Select All Categories to remove the category restriction.

Categories are generated from the indexed Flow content library and may include grouped labels such as:

Architecture | Windows

The available categories depend on the content in the current library.

Filter by Project Status

The Project Status filter compares indexed family content with the active Revit project.

Available filters are:

Filter Shows
All All content matching the other active filters
Loaded Families already loaded into the active project
Not Loaded Families not currently loaded into the active project
In Use Loaded families with one or more placed instances
Unused Loaded families with no placed instances

Project status relates to the active project

If you change the active Revit project, the loaded and usage status may be different.

Show Favourites

Use favourites for content you return to regularly.

To mark an item as a favourite:

  1. Select the required content.
  2. Click Favourite.

You can also use the star shown with favourite content to recognise it in the results.

Turn on Favourites to restrict the results to favourite items.

To remove an item from favourites, select it and click Favourite again.

Show Recent Content

Content Browser records recently loaded content.

Turn on Recent to restrict the results to recent items.

Recent content is also identified in the content list.

The recent list keeps the most recent items rather than becoming an unlimited history.

Combine Filters

Search and filters can be used together.

For example, you can:

  • show only Loaded window families;
  • search within Favourites;
  • show Unused content within a selected category;
  • combine Favourites and Recent to show items belonging to either group.

If no content appears, remove one filter at a time to identify which restriction is excluding the item.

Review Selected Content

Select an item to review the information shown in the Browser.

Depending on the content, this can include:

  • preview image;
  • display name;
  • source file name;
  • source location;
  • content type;
  • family kind;
  • project status;
  • source and resolved content paths;
  • load readiness;
  • local mirror/cache information;
  • type-catalogue availability and validation information.

Preview availability

A preview image is shown where one is available. A missing preview does not necessarily mean that the source content is unavailable.

Next Step

Once you have found the required content, continue to Loading Content.

For the actions available when you right-click an item, see Content Actions.
